Prefecture-level city vs. municipality

[edit]

In case anyone was interested, as of today, "prefecture-level city" (or its plural) had ~12,100 Google hits, compared with ~260 for "prefecture-level municipality" (or plural)--mostly Encyclopedia Britannica and some Chinese official sites. ~ Dpr

Same name as the city?

[edit]

"A prefecture-level city is not a "city" in the usual sense of the term (i.e. a large continuous urban settlement), but instead an administrative unit comprising, typically, a main central urban area (a city in the usual sense, with the same name as the prefecture-level city)" -- I've looked at articles on Chinese prefecture-level cities on Wikipedia but none of them had subdivisions with the same name. What makes up the urban core does not appear to be well-defined either. Someone the Person (talk) 17:43, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
