RevDel Requests

Hi @Nthep

I recently started to hang around at CopyPatrol and I've created some RevDel Requests that I learned, thanks to you, that they were completely wrong/unnecessary. So thank you for having patience with me while I'm still learning the ropes. 1AmNobody24 (talk) 07:15, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

@1AmNobody24 it's great to see more people involved in this area. Never be afraid to tag something as requiring attention. That way it gets a second opinion and the worst that can happen is the request is declined. Mistakes do happen, I've been looking at these for years and I can get it spectacularly wrong at times, so if you think the reviewing admin is wrong, ask.
The main things to remember is that the main criteria for RD1 revdel is blatant copyvio. To me that means no or minimal attempt to attribute the source. If the person adding the content has made reasonable attempts, even if wrong, to cite the source, I may well decline the revdel and leave it as removal of the offending content is sufficient. That's my opinion, other admins may take a different view. Nthep (talk) 09:44, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
@Nthep Quick question: Should unattributed copying within Wikipedia but from (and in) another language be RevDel'd or just deleted? Example: [1]. Thx for the answer. 1AmNobody24 (talk) 07:15, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
@1AmNobody24 definitely deleted for not being in English. Revdel, debateable, I suppose it depends how easily it is identified as being from another Wiki. I see here it got revdel'd and I would probably have done the same. Nthep (talk) 12:45, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

vandalism on a page, i would like to have your advice

HEllo, I'm Uri, and I saw your name as editor on one of the pages of a person who asked for my help. Can I have your advice please? Thanks Uri Unissani fw (talk) 19:07, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

@Unissani fw ask away. Nthep (talk) 19:09, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
HEllo, and thanks for your willing to help!
The question is: I have a friend who suffers form negative response from "anonymous" users, who repeatedly publish negative information about him on his page. can he ask for a "lockdown" his page? so that only WIki admin can approve changes and edits on his page? can he ask for it ? what's involved ? is it a complicated procedure or can you simply ask for it somewhere?
Thanks again,
Uri 149.106.255.4 (talk) 10:42, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
@Unissani fw Short answer is yes. There are varying levels of protection that can be applied to articles. Your friend is best proceeding by emailing info-en@wikimedia.org with details of which article and what the issues are. The team there can take the matter further. Emails are confidential so the content will not go further than the team who receive it. Nthep (talk) 13:53, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
