Arbitration

  • Eligible editors are invited to self-nominate themselves from 12 November 2023 until 21 November 2023 to stand in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections.
  • Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.
  • Following a motion, the contentious topic designation of Prem Rawat has been struck. Actions previously taken using this contentious topic designation are still in force.
  • Following several motions, multiple topic areas are no longer designated as a contentious topic. These contentious topic designations were from the Editor conduct in e-cigs articles, Liancourt Rocks, Longevity, Medicine, September 11 conspiracy theories, and Shakespeare authorship question cases.
  • Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
  • Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
  • An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.

Comment/question: Even though this is from last week and isn't specifically relevant, I don't think the bot should trigger on articles with in use/under construction templates. That and it seems to be triggering on the first edit after it was born that includes a bad cite, not actually on edits that actively add the bad cite (see my other edit, Special:Diff//1182864508).

@Neko-chan, it's best to err on the side of saftey (i.e. notify just in case). It does leave a delay of 15 minutes.
Regarding the latter edit, the reference was initially malformed (see here) and fixing it made the error appear. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:59, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

No errors on this page from me, perhaps there are existing errors that were never corrected ? I am in the process of improving the article

@WorldTravleerAndPhotoTaker, you added

Question from Fico Puricelli (16:31, 12 November 2023)

Hello. Today I have doubts. What's the difference between adding plot summary into a TV show article, and a comic book, because not all of my drafts and articles accept my plots. Some users say we can't include summaries about fictional works, but some articles are accepted, while others aren't. What do I do? Because there is a lot of confusion. Thank you. --Fico Puricelli (talk) 16:31, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

@Fico Puricelli, I may be misunderstanding the situation, but I believe the issue is wp:notability. The drafts have to either pass WP:GNG or WP:SNG, and just a plot summary is insufficient.
If you can provide more context I might be able to help you more. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:39, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Prevent the bot from leaving messages on my talk page

Hello! How can I prevent the bot from leaving messages on my talk page [[8]]? Please help. Thank you in advance! Maxim Masiutin (talk) 00:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

@Maxim Masiutin, as it says on User:Qwerfjkl (bot), add {{bots|optout=cs1-errors}}— Qwerfjkltalk 18:47, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Maxim Masiutin (talk) 18:49, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from IaincampbellUNSW (08:23, 16 November 2023)

Hello. I would like to make a page for habitats around the world and their bird assemblages. How do I start with a new page --IaincampbellUNSW (talk) 08:23, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

@IaincampbellUNSW, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing six million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! — Qwerfjkltalk 07:40, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ginandtang (00:59, 17 November 2023)

high --Ginandtang (talk) 00:59, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

@Ginandtang, do you have a question? — Qwerfjkltalk 07:40, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

Article Minestone

Minestone looks to me like another term for Coal refuse or, when sifting through online dictionaries, a term for generic mine waste. I am not confident in creating a redirect myself and would greatly appreciate you having a look at it (sidenote: the reason I am posting this to you specifically is because it is linked in your User:Qwerfjkl/lcSD page). CapnJackDaniels (talk) 19:02, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

@CapnJackDaniels, I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with the topic to comment on the merits of merging. I would suggest following one of the options at Wikipedia:Merging - perhaps pinging editors who have edited either of the articles if you don't feel confident enough to do it yourself. (User:Qwerfjkl/lcSD was a page for tracking articles with a short description starting with a lowercase letter, hence this edit on Minestone.) — Qwerfjkltalk 20:25, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Qwerfjkl,

I'm not sure why you created this orphaned talk page as there is no article to accompany it. I deleted it but I just thought I'd inquire in case you meant to create a talk page for a differently spelled article. Thanks, I hope you are having a good week. Liz Read! Talk! 22:36, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

Liz, I wondered why my code wasn't working. Thanks, that was a typo. — Qwerfjkltalk 14:59, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

years in Yugoslavia category renames

Hey, I noticed [15] and similar edits, but there's no bot change to actually rename, what gives? TIA --Joy (talk) 08:32, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

@Joy, I listed it at WT:CFDW for an admin to process. (Actually I didn't mean to remove the CfD tag, but it doesn't make much difference so I decided to just leave it.) — Qwerfjkltalk 16:42, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Comment/question:

SheilaD1234 (talk) 18:50, 24 November 2023 (UTC) Sorry, I'm new at this (never edited before) and I don't know how to make it conform to Wikipedia practices. All I know is the contents of the article are correct and verifiable. It was hopelessly out of date (the subject stopped being a TV producer almost 20 years ago, and he has since published articles and books etc, and hosted a conference at the British Museum).

@SheilaD1234, the problem was with this reference:
<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.routledge.com/The-Language-of-Symmetry/Rattigan-Noble-Hatta/p/book/9781032303949}}</ref>

which is missing |title=.
This isn't a big problem, it just contributes to link rot, so please try to add a title to references. — Qwerfjkltalk 19:30, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I hope it's okay now, but please do let me know if it needs amending. SheilaD1234 (talk) 19:46, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:55, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

MSGJ, I have been running it, but apparently it's made no edits. There's probably some bug in the code, I'll try to fix it. — Qwerfjkltalk 19:06, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
MSGJ, okay, it seems to be working now. Please let me know if there are any errors. I've set it to run every hour. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:45, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
