Pas 324 Group 9, I wasn’t able to find much on Patricia Bell Scott other than what Erika has already found (i.e., University of Georgia,Family & Consumer Sciences, Bookfinder . My plans for the project that are that we 1. Title the article with the authors name “Patricia Bell Scott.” 2. The introductory section should begin with who she is, why she is important, her full name, date of birth, and a summary of contributions. 3. The following sections can then be separated into her history/background information, where she works and has worked, and life’s work and contributions, which can each have their own sections. Publications

Bell-Scott is a polished writer in which she helped edit journals as well as successfully published several books of insightful stories of Black Women. Her first book, All the Women Are White, All the Blacks Are Men, But Some Of Us Are Brave: Black Women’ Studies, was co-edited alongside Akasha Gloria Hull and Barbara Smith. It was written in 1982 and recognized as one of the “Books That Made the Century Great” in 2000 by Black Issues Book Review. The book represents a collection of literary essays and gives a look at Black Women’s contribution to the blues. It is a general read that also provides essential materials that may be used in courses such as: African American studies, family studies, and women’s studies.

Her second piece of work came along in 1991, titled Double Stitch: Black Women Write About Mothers And Daughters, co-edited with writers Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Jacquline Jones Royster, Janet Sims-Wood, Miriam DeCosta-Willis, and Lucie Fultz. The book was another non-fictional work filled with personal narratives and poetic essays exploring the bonds within African American mother-daughter relationships.

Life Notes: Personal Writings By Contemporary Black Women (1994), was dedicated to reveal the complexities of Black Women’s lives from original diaries, journals, and personal notebooks of modern Black women that encompassed their journeys through life.

Flat-Footed Truths: Telling Black Women's Lives was written in collaboration with Juanita John-Bailey and was published in 1998. To tell the flat-footed truth is a southern saying meaning to tell the naked truth. So, in their work Bell-Scott and John-Bailey attempt to tell the lives of Black women through twenty-seven African-American women writers and artists. In which they each share their memorable stories of identity and artistic creation in the forms of essays, interviews, poetry, and images.

Bell-Scott is currently writing her fifth book titled The Firebrand and the First Lady: Pauli Murray, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Their Struggle for Social Justice, to be published by Alfred A. Knopf.

Bell-Scott was also an original co-founder of the National Women’s Studies Association and was a former editor to Ms. Magazine.
