[edit]Hello, I'm Dr Greg. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Yorkshire and the Humber have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. The "Yorkshire and the Humber" region is not the same thing as the historic county of Yorkshire. Dr Greg talk 20:59, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

County flags
[edit]Hi TheCyberDragon, can I ask you to pause adding flags to English county infoboxes for a sec? I'll explain more fully below, I just wanted to notify you quickly. A.D.Hope (talk) 13:55, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- So, the main reason the English counties don't have flags in their infobox is that most flags represent the historic counties; they've been registered with the Flag Institute, which only registers flags for the historic counties. The county infoboxes, on the other hand, are about the ceremonial counties. The borders of the two types of county are often different, so the historic flags shouldn't be used to represent the ceremonial counties. Instead, the historic flags are often included somewhere in the body of the article (e.g. Herefordshire#Emblems).
- I hope that makes sense, but feel free to ask if you have any questions. A.D.Hope (talk) 14:05, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Why does the "Flag Institute" only register flags for Historic counties?
- Why do they not register flags for Ceremonial Counties? TheCyberDragon (talk) 17:13, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not sure, it's probably just a decision they've made. They're our main source for many of the county flags, however, so using them for the ceremonial counties is tricky. A.D.Hope (talk) 17:17, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- And it's also completely wrong. We don't recognise the difference between 'historic' and other types of county on wikipedia as our longstanding policy makes clear. Also why are you giving credence to the flag institute? They aren't an official body. G-13114 (talk) 18:34, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello again! It's now part of the WP:UKCOUNTIES guidelines that the ceremonial county infoboxes shouldn't contain flags, so it would be helpful if you didn't re-add them. Thanks, A.D.Hope (talk) 13:37, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- but the articles are not only about the Ceremonial counties, they are also about the Historic counties.
- The Ceremonial County and Historic County are the same article, so why can't I add the flag of a Historic county on an article about the Historic county? TheCyberDragon (talk) 16:49, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- You shouldn't need to – the historic county flags registered with the Flag Institute should all be somewhere in the body of the relevant ceremonial county article. A.D.Hope (talk) 16:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Portraits of historical figures
[edit]Hi TheCyberDragon, I've just reverted several of your edits at Alfred the Great, Henry V of England, and Henry IV of England. In most cases, a contemporary image of a biographical subject is more encyclopedic and natural than one made hundreds of years later by someone who never saw the subject. There may be exceptions, such as later portraits that are widely recognized as the best image of the subject, but this didn't appear to be the case. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! Woodroar (talk) 16:24, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
