Recent work on List_of_TED_speakers

[edit]

The recent work on List_of_TED_speakers is being considered for reversion at Wikipedia:External_links/Noticeboard#List_of_TED_speakers (a note of that discussion is at Talk:List_of_TED_speakers#Discussion:_removing_external_links_from_the_list_entries).

I hope you will contribute to the discussion, as you are the editor who did the bulk of the work, and made many of the decisions about formatting, and what to include. — Lentower (talk) 19:23, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Good morning, Zyxw. Got a question for you: why are you distinguishing between the parameters imported from Infobox sportsperson and those those parameters that are specific to Infobox swimmer [1]? Is there some reason to do this? It was agreed several years ago that Infobox swimmer could be merged with Infobox sportsperson but maintained as a wrapper with its own swimming-specific parameters, but without importing the long list of optional parameters that Infobox sportsperson includes. That's the background, and most swimming editors want to maintain those boundaries and keep a shorter, simpler infobox for swimmer bios. To that end, I would like to understand the purpose(s) of your last change to the template documentation. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:14, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I felt it would be helpful to go through the documentation of all the infoboxes implemented via {{Infobox sportsperson}} to make it clear which parameters were added that did not exist in the main template. Part of what prompted this was that I recently noticed a new infobox created with {{Infobox sportsperson}} which did not have any additional parameters and only defined a value for |sport=. I have revised the documentation at {{Infobox swimmer}} to remove the highlighting and list the descriptions in the order displayed, with a less obtrusive table row header showing the parameters added for swimmers. I hope that will address your concerns. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 16:04, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your explanation, Zyxw. I now understand what you were trying to accomplish. The merge/wrap of this Infobox swimmer into Infobox sportsperson was a compromise coupled with a promise: that Infobox swimmer could maintain its character and sport-specific parameters, without importing the long list of optional parameters that Infobox sportsperson includes. Your latest round of edits appears to be in keeping with that understanding. Hope to bump into you again around the encyclopedia. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 03:41, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox college football player

[edit]

Zyxw, I have reverted your recent edit to Infobox college football player. I didn't do this because I disagreed with your addition of date and place of death parameters; in fact, they are at the top of the list of parameter changes that will probably be made to this template in the near future. The template's design is under active consideration by members of WP:CFB and WP:NFL (see User talk:Dirtlawyer1/sandbox), and we are presently waiting on a mock-up of the revised infobox before we commence !voting on the final changes. If you would like to express your opinion regarding the proposed addition of date and place of death parameters, we would welcome your participation. We would also welcome your critique of the revised template coding when the mock-up becomes available. Thanks for your understanding. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:47, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of List of Miami City Ballet performers

[edit]

The article List of Miami City Ballet performers has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Outdated and no reason to believe any of these dancers are notable enough to be listed on Wikipedia. This sort of company list should remain on the Miami City Ballet website, if anywhere. Fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thank you for catching up with the links from USATF. There are so many bios with dead links because the succession of USATF webmaster keep moving the content address. I've complained to the webmaster face to face. He understood. He quit a month later, and the replacement to his replacement to his replacement didn't get the memo. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rankin Airport requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. conditionals on Infobox rugby biography

[edit]
  • Look at Dave Gallaher. The darker blue Rugby union career appears twice, once at the bottom of the infobox. If I populate the referee values, it disappears (but Gallaher doesn't need ref values). I think the logic is more than a little off. • Lingzhi(talk) 09:50, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Module:InfoboxImage's "upright" parameter

[edit]

Hi, I've seen you remove Module:InfoboxImage's "upright" parameter from infoboxes, because the infoboxes provide no way to change it. Could we instead be adding an |image_upright= parameter to replace |image_size=, as we've already done with lots of other infoboxes, like {{Infobox station}}? By the way, |sizedefault=frameless has also got no effect, as the default is "frameless". Alakzi (talk) 18:07, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out that |sizedefault=frameless could also be removed, I wasn't thinking about that at the time. I am aware of the changes at {{Infobox station}} but would have preferred that |image_size= not be removed, at least until Module:Location map supports "upright". Right now there is no way with that infobox to make the image and the map display at identical widths for all thumbnail size settings in Preferences. Workarounds such as setting the map to "300px" are only equivalent to the infobox image default of "upright=1.35" for users who have not changed from the default thumbnail size of 220px. -- Zyxw (talk) 04:59, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Zyxw. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, TNCC, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Robvanvee 19:03, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about TNCC

[edit]

Hello, Zyxw,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether TNCC should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TNCC .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Robvanvee 19:04, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. When I created TNCC five years ago it was a redirect. It got nominated for deletion about one hour after another user converted it to a disambiguation page with one blue link and one red link. I have commented on this at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TNCC. -- Zyxw (talk) 01:17, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes indeed — note was intended to seek your help in moving it toward being a sourced article (in line with your earlier constructive edit), rather than to continue as a dumping ground of unsourced one-liners. I rarely get involved in entertainment articles for this reason, but a family member had pointed out the issues with this article, and so I did my academic usual on it. Cheers. "U. S." After City, State in basketball infoboxes

[edit]

Hi - I see you have been adding this to a large number of American basketball player articles. I have been removing them as "U. S." Is not required after city, state and is not the existing consensus for basketball infoboxes. thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 23:51, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. I didn't see any mention of this in the documentation or talk page for Template:Infobox basketball biography, so I followed what appears to be a common practice with most infoboxes of including the country in the "birth place" field. I noticed you also reverted one where I added "Canada". Out of curiosity, have there been any discussions about not including the country? If so, I'd like to update the template's documentation with a link. -- Zyxw (talk) 02:21, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please delete Template:S-religious so that User:Tahc/Template:S-religious can be moved to that page when it is ready? tahc chat 18:03, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am not able to delete pages because I am not an administrator. Also, I think the existing Template:S-rel is what needs to be moved to Template:S-religious, with the new codes added there either before or after the move. This maintains the edit history for an eight-year-old template and avoids having two active templates for the same function. I've added two comments at Template talk:S-rel, so probably better to continue this there. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 02:23, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
