Orphaned non-free image File:DEL2 logo.png

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:DEL2 logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:34, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Template:Sco" listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Template:Sco. Since you had some involvement with the Template:Sco redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you wish to do so. –MJLTalk 23:27, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How did you identify templates to place in this category? I'm curious if there is a better way than just happening on these or finding editors that might have systemically made templates that add categories. --Izno (talk) 22:08, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Izno: Searches of the template namespace, such as insource:/\{\{Documentation\}\}/i insource:/\[\[Category:/i, which returns templates using external documentation via {{Documentation}} which also contain a category (since categories for the template itself are usually placed in the external /doc). Not all results are templates which add a category, so examining each templace is required. Another method would be searches for templates like {{WikidataCheck}} which add categories, such as insource:/WikidataCheck/i. See Help:Searching for more on using insource: in searches. -- Zyxw (talk) 22:59, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's what I expected the answer to be. Rats. :( I am working on WP:TEMPLATECAT templates, so it's great you identified many. --Izno (talk) 23:02, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date and age

[edit]

As a matter of interest, an alternative to edits like this would be to remove the hyphen to use {{birth date and age}} instead:

  • {{birth-date and age|1 March 1940}} → 1 March 1940 (1940-03) (age 84)
  • {{birth date and age|df=yes|1 March 1940}} (1940-03-01) 1 March 1940 (age 84)
  • {{birth date and age|mf=yes|1 March 1940}} (1940-03-01) March 1, 1940 (age 84)

I'm just mentioning this in case you were not aware that Module:Age supports a variety of date formats. Johnuniq (talk) 22:50, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnuniq: Thanks. I am aware, just think that {{birth-date and age}} makes more sense because it maintains the format used, rather than requiring the parameter |df= or the dummy parameter |mf=:
  • {{birth-date and age|1 March 1940}} → 1 March 1940 (1940-03) (age 84)
  • {{birth-date and age|March 1, 1940}} → March 1, 1940 (1940-03) (age 84)
versus this:
  • {{birth date and age|1 March 1940}} (1940-03-01) March 1, 1940 (age 84)
  • {{birth date and age|March 1, 1940}} (1940-03-01) March 1, 1940 (age 84)
It would be nice if Module:Age supported this as well, in which case {{birth-date and age}} could be eliminated. -- Zyxw (talk) 01:22, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you mean—that is a lot easier for editors to follow. Module:Age can do the underlying work but it would need tweaking to make that change. {{extract}} also uses the module:
  • {{extract|March 1, 1940|show=format}} → mdy
Some logic would be needed, probably to say "use df=yes or mf=yes if they were used, otherwise use the input format if it was given as a single date". Johnuniq (talk) 02:59, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnuniq: That makes sense, to give df/mf parameters preference over the format used. Something which just occurred to me that would also be nice is if it could check the article for {{use dmy dates}} or {{use mdy dates}} similar to what the citation templates do, as described in Help:Citation Style 1 § Auto-formatting citation template dates. -- Zyxw (talk) 03:37, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In principle that would be great but I hate the idea of the extreme overhead just to muck around with a date. I have been wondering whether some of the problems reported at WP:VPT in the last few weeks (timeout and related errors) might have been influenced by that overhead (some people were unable to preview edits to large articles). I think Scribunto should support a feature like that if it is to be used, however the developers want every template/module call to be state-free so that previewing an edit of a section will always produce the same result, regardless of what is on the rest of the page. Award parameter not in some infoboxes

[edit]

I asked a question here about templates, including the {{Infobox sportsperson}} , and intended to wait there for an answer, but that page doesn't have a lot of traffic, so I thought I would ask you, who seem to be editing this template relatively recently:

I see that many templates, such as {{Infobox basketball biography}} and {{Infobox college coach}} have a specific parameter for awards (called highlights in one place) but I don't see such a parameter in {{Infobox sportsperson}}. I'm wondering if this is deliberate, or if I could simply ask for it to be added? I am working on Honda Sports Award, and it is somewhat odd that I can add the award to an infobox for many winners, but not others, depending on which infobox was chosen.--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Language icon templates with other than ISO 639 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi Zyxw, Good day. thank you very much for adding/updating the external links section of the MMA fighters. As per MMA External links external links and WP:ELMIN guidelines, we would place 1. Official website or related websites 2. Sherdog 3. Promotion profile of the fighter. We would place the Sherdog ID as sometimes there are more than one MMA fighters having the same names. Note, we dont place ESPN / Tapology / Fight metrics and as well as the social media info in the external links. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia(talk) 05:12, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
